Success does not require a famous zebra crossing. Markgröninger Straße was not made for that either. Nevertheless, countless artists, sound engineers and producers from all over the world were and still are thrilled by the brilliant sound quality and the unique, outstanding technology of Bauer Studios, which leaves nothing to be desired.
The success story of Germany's oldest privately run recording studio began in 1949: Rolf Bauer founded a family business that quickly became the hottest address for sound recordings in Germany. His recipe for success was to be a pioneer - especially on the technical side. He first succeeded in this at the end of the 1950s (use of stereophony) and then 10 years later with the introduction of multi-track technology. But his skill also proved itself on the creative and visionary side: Bauer Studios reinvented brass band music (Egerländer Sound) and provided spectacular tour recordings of the 1970s (Keith Jarrett's live concert in Cologne is just one of many examples). The expansion in mastering and manufacturing in the 80s consolidated the studio's success and reputation worldwide. And long before it became an industry standard, Bauer Studios was already offering surround sound and 5.1 mixing in 2000.
Eva Bauer-Oppelland and Reiner Oppelland took over the management of the studios in 1989. Since the 1st of March 2017 Bettina Bertók-Thumm, Philipp Heck and Michael Thumm became the new directors and managers of Bauer Studios. Not only do they represent the successful continuation of this business tradition, but also the modernization of the company and development of new areas of business.
